Rival Consoles breaks down how a sustained chord progression, played live on the Prophet Rev 2, gets turned into the choppy, rhythmic pattern heard in the song "Known Shape". Instead of playing staccato notes, he lets the chords ring out and uses a gate triggered by a separate rhythm to slice the sustain into a tight, pulsing pattern.
It's a simple way to add rhythmic interest to pads or chords that would otherwise just sit in the background.
On top of the gated sustain, he stacks heavy EQ and Ableton's Amp effect, an extreme tool he sometimes uses for its overly bright, overdriven character.
