This Ableton tutorial walks through three distinct ways to shape note velocity inside Live 12's Note View, using the velocity lane sliders and keyboard shortcuts. The techniques are demonstrated across four sections of a MIDI clip, making it easy to see how each approach produces a different dynamic feel.
Velocity randomization applies a range of random values across selected notes, with an optional deviation slider to control how spread out the results are. Upward and downward velocity ramps let you program a gradual crescendo or fade across a section using the same lane sliders.
For note-by-note control, selecting one or more notes and holding CMD (Mac) or ALT (Windows) lets you nudge velocity up or down with the arrow keys. You can also drag vertically with the mouse for quicker sweeps, or type a precise value and hit enter.
