This bit from Ableton's Learn Live series breaks down three ways to shape automation curves directly in Arrangement View, once you've already drawn or recorded your envelope. Instead of settling for straight lines between breakpoints, you get precise control over how a parameter glides from one value to the next.
Hold Alt on PC or Option on Mac while dragging a line between two breakpoints to bend it into a curve, useful for smoother filter sweeps or volume swells than a straight ramp allows. Need a specific shape fast? Select a time span, right-click (or Control-click on Mac), and choose from a menu of preset Automation Shapes instead of drawing them by hand.
For bigger structural changes, hover over a selected automation span to reveal handles that let you stretch and skew the whole thing vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Holding Ctrl on PC or Option on Mac while dragging a handle adjusts the opposite handle at the same time, which speeds up symmetrical tweaks like widening or narrowing a filter sweep without redrawing it from scratch.
