This walkthrough shows how to set up multi-channel audio interfaces inside Ableton Live's preferences, so every input and output you have access to is ready to use by name. In the Audio tab, under Channel Configuration, Input Config lets you activate the specific mono or stereo inputs you actually need instead of leaving everything on default labels.
Clicking into the empty field next to each active input lets you rename it to something meaningful, like the mic or line source it's connected to. The same process applies to Output Config, activating and naming outputs the identical way.
Once configured, these named channels show up directly in Live's routing menus, making it faster to select the right input for recording or the right output for monitoring during a performance. It's a small setup step that pays off anytime you're working with more than a basic stereo in/out setup.
