This Ableton tutorial walks through the Seed Generator, a MIDI generation tool in Live 12 that creates scale-locked melodic patterns on demand. The demonstration uses an electric piano track, showing how to open the generator from a clip slot's drop-down menu and set a pitch range before generating the first pattern.
Pitch range, duration range, and velocity range each constrain what the generator can produce, and Live only outputs notes that fit the selected scale. Hitting Apply (or Command/Control Enter) regenerates a new pattern within those same constraints each time, so you can cycle through variations quickly until one fits.
The Voices slider caps how many simultaneous notes can sound, while the Density slider controls the total note count across the pattern. Together they let you dial in anything from a sparse single-line melody to a fuller, more harmonically active phrase.
