This Ableton tutorial covers four one-click MIDI note transformations built into Live's MIDI clip editor: Legato, Reverse, Invert, and tempo-shift. Each command applies to a selected group of notes, or to the entire clip if nothing is selected.
Legato extends or shortens each note so it reaches exactly to the start of the next one, useful for smoothing out melodic lines or creating a tied, connected feel. Reverse flips the horizontal position of notes around the center of the selection. Invert flips pitches vertically, swapping the highest note with the lowest, which can quickly generate countermelodies or fresh harmonic variations from existing patterns.
Play at Double Tempo and Play at Half Tempo shift the playback speed of the notes without editing the clip's overall tempo, letting you experiment with rhythmic density on the fly.
