This Ableton Live tip from the Learn Live series covers a quick fix for disk overload errors: loading audio files directly into RAM. When large files or Sampler instruments live on an external drive, your disk can struggle to stream them fast enough, causing dropouts.
To load a clip into RAM, hit the RAM button in the Clip View of any Audio Clip. For Sampler instruments, the same option is available in the Sample tab.
