Ableton Live's Take Lanes workflow shows the actual mechanics of comping multiple takes into one clean performance. Select the sections you like across different takes, hit Enter, and those choices become the highlighted parts that populate your main lane instantly, no manual cutting or dragging required.
For more precise control, switch to the Pencil tool and click directly on the clips you want to use, painting your comp take by take. This works especially well when you want to audition options without committing right away.
You can also drag-select a specific time range first, then use the Pencil tool to click through and compare how different takes sound in that exact spot. It's a fast way to A/B a tricky phrase or transition before locking in the final comp.
