Ableton's Stacks generator turns chord browsing into an exploratory, hands-on process. Inside a MIDI clip, dragging the chord symbol scrolls through different chord shapes, while the bottom left of Live's interface displays the chord name, notes, and scale degrees in real time.
From there, the plus button adds a new chord into the selected slot, and the same scrolling gesture lets you cycle through inversions or shift the root note. Duration and start time offset controls let you dial in how each chord sits in the sequence, giving you both harmonic and rhythmic flexibility as you build a progression.
