Ocean breaks down the quick master chain he reaches for on his own tracks in Logic Pro, applied on the master channel once the mix is done.
He starts with Kramer tape for a touch of saturation and character, dialing it in while soloing the track's highest-energy section. From there it's subtractive EQ to clear out unneeded lows and highs, then compression tuned to hit within a 0 to 4 dB range, sometimes stacking a second compressor for extra glue.
A light touch of reverb and the free Fresh Air plugin add air and character to the top end, both optional but part of his signature sound. An L3 multi-maximizer adds punch before Ozone, run with a techno preset, closes out the chain as a final polish.
Ocean is upfront that mastering is its own skill and he usually hands finished mixes to a dedicated mastering engineer. This chain is his fallback for a fast, solid-sounding master when that's not an option.
